Lee Freel

Freel, Lee Gordon Age 66, passed away peacefully Saturday December, 18, 2010 in Elkhorn Wisconsin. He was born March 26, 1944, to Hazel and Chester Freel in Pulaski Co. His father, Chester Freel, preceded Lee in death in 1945. Lee's mother, Hazel married George H. Olmstead in 1950 and relocated to Gary, IN. where they attended the Eastside United Presbyterian Church. He attended Norton Park Crippled Children's school, and graduated Emerson High school, class of '65. He earned his Ham Operator's license while still in high school and enjoyed attending Ham fests with his friends throughout his life. He earned his Bachelors degree and first Masters Degree from Indiana University Northwest. He earned a second Masters degree from Wheaton College in Illinois. He was employed by the Northwest Indiana Regional Planning Commission, Indiana University Northwest, Ivy Tech State College, and also served on the Gary/Chicago Regional Airport board. He was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Portage, and most recently joined the family at Inspiration Ministries in Wisconsin where he fell in love with Wendy Fitch. He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Crane Olmstead, stepfather, George H. Olmstead, and aunt, Mary Emily Guise of Culver Indiana. He is survived by two sisters, Rebecca (John) Swerdon of Portage, IN, and Elizabeth (Scott) Smith of Gary, IN.; nephews, Christopher (Caprice) Messer; great-nephew Gabriel, and William Messer of Bloomington, IN; niece, Emily Ann Smith of Gary, IN. Following cremation, a memorial service is planned at Inspiration Ministries, P.O. Box 351, Walworth, WI, at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday December 22, 2010. A celebration of his life will be held at Evangelical Covenant Church of Portage at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday January 22, 2011, In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to Inspiration Ministries in Lee's name.
